ABSTRACT
Research data management (RDM) has become a new service for some academic libraries in many countries. The rapid growth of the emergence of this service has been discussed in past literature. Vast quantities of research data are being produced by researchers in various forms. Therefore, the academic library could take a key role in developing and handling the RDM services. Some scholars have been discussing the connection between the RDM and libraries as well as their importance. The relationship among the stakeholders within the institution would play a big role in RDM services and activities. However, the stakeholders, especially the library, should identify the relevant drivers and influences in developing the RDM services. Indeed, the library could face issues and challenges in developing the RDM services since it is very new for the researchers and other stakeholders. The question that might be raised is, how does the library start the RDM services? The paper will go through some of the ideas discussed in the literature and lessons learned from other academic libraries around the world.
