ABSTRACT

This study describes efforts to implement policies concerning preservation of university video collection in academic library. It argues that such preservation should be considered as a memory collective, an asset for the sustainability in education, research, and community service of the university. Universitas Indonesia (UI), the oldest university in Indonesia, has a large collection of digital video collection since the opening of its new campus in Depok, in 1984. The video collection was a production of the UI Public Relation division which started in 1984. The study undertaken used a descriptive qualitative method which involves gathering data from online interviews, observation of digital video collection and literature study. Result showed that awareness on the importance of preserving digital video collection as collection already exists, but the goal is not as asset to preserve memory collective. It is hoped that this research can provide a perspective to academic library on preserving digital video collection as memory collective for the sustainability of knowledge in education, research and community service.
